SCUBA diving in the Tennessee River near downtown Chattanooga. This video clip shows what remains of the Chattanooga, a paddlewheeler that sunk in about 18 feet of water. (If you have ever seen the panoramic photograph of, "The million dollar bridge," you will see the Chattanooga moored on the north shore of the Tennessee River. This location is fairly close to where the wreckage is located on the bottom of the river today.) Not much seems to be known about the cause of this shipwreck, although a fire is the most often sited cause that I have heard. Sadly this wreck is disappearing rather quickly. About two years ago more of the decking was intact as well as some of the siderails. This and other video clips show the ribs and few planks that remain.
