After four years I am leaving Birmingham. Once of the things that I haven't managed to do while I've been here was to re-start the University's radio club. In this video, I explain why.

I've received a message from a former member of the Birmingham Uni club, correcting a point in this video:

The club was still running in 1996, when the equipment was a TS-520SE for HF and FT-221R for VHF.

  • These regulations are incredibly stupid - hopefully they will be lifted as they are ridiculous. Good luck with the future and good luck with the course! Sorry you didnt get the radio club started - the school wouldn't let a tech/comms club start in school for exactly the same reasons - apparently stringing a longwire across a grass pitch is life threatening. It's all to stop lawsuits in the incredibly-rare offchance, but hey, that's life. Down with legistlation, up with sense.

  • Thanks, Eoghan. Yes, it does seem to be a growing trend, sadly; sorry to hear you have suffered as well. It was just frustrating looking at that nice triband beam for four years and not being able to use it. Oh well.
