Let me ask you this... If Osgood was on the Senators teams of the early '90s would he be HHOF material, heck no I agree 400+ wins gets you in, but he got those wins on a good team
so now we're gonna start discounting wins that come with a good team? let me list some of the Goaltenders who whose Hall of Fame Status would then be "questionable": Jacques Plante, Johnny Bower, Ken Dryden, Billy Smith, Grant Fuhr, etc. - do we really want to go there?
Notice the word "Fame" in the HHOF. It is what goalies contribute to the rich history of hockey. Their achievements, their records, notable moments in their career (that could have changed the game). If every skilled players got into the HHOF we would need to renovate the building to cover the street.
Thanks in large part to strong play by Peca, Yashin and Osgood, the new-look Islanders opened the season on a tear, starting 111-11 en route to finishing with 96 points, their best point total in 18 years. So when Ozzy keeps nearly the same numbers going to the Isles and Blues ( which both were not good teams) doesnt mean he is good? When he hasnt had a losing season in the NHL, on any team, then is he good enough for the HHOF, or when he replace Hasek to win the Cup?
I don't know about all that. I wish we could've gotten to see what Tretiak could've done going through the grind that is an NHL season. For my money, Ken Dryden is STILL the best. The only guy to win the Conn Smythe BEFORE the Calder, six cup rings in a nine year career. Tough to argue with those numbers, although he did have a LOT of help on those teams.
