I'd prefer to get rid of Windoze entirely, but Linux has too often fallen short. For example, I need to keep Windoze on my laptop because I need the dialup modem to work...and no version of Linux works with this modem. My "compatible" printer gives vastly inferior results compared to Windoze. Also, the last several Ubuntu distros keep failing with the update manager, it never worked right except the first 2 or 3 times...so I gave up. BTW, I founded the Berkeley Linux Users Group in 2001.

One thing I really struggle with is "how to install software when the only thing the developer provides is a tarball". If it's a deb or I can get it from the command line, it's no problem. But I haven't found any good guides online for how to simply install software from a tar.gz file. Any tips?

LOL, this is hilarious. Thanks for sharing. What's funny is that I was that little crybaby the first time I tried using Linux! I think the problem is that so many people see the challenge and mislabel it "hard". The more I use Linux, the more excited I am about it and the future. LMAO!!! I switched to linux after using windows since, well what seems forever. I started with Ubuntu and ended up with Mint (now on Mint 11). I was so sick and tired of windows that I chose to completely switch not dual boot. I think it took me about 30 seconds to figure out how to install a program and maybe 3 months tops to become completely content with linux. I agree with you 100% lol people are afraid of the unknown and would rather pay for what they think they no. Keep the vid's coming.
