Presenting "Abortion providers are heroes" banner to Charlotte clinic

On July 17th and 24th, activists from the Greensboro chapter of World Can't Wait joined the defense of Family Reproductive Health in Charlotte, which had been targeted by "Operation Oppress You / Operation Theocratic America". We had made a banner which read "A fetus is not a baby, abortion is not murder, women are not incubators, ABORTION PROVIDERS ARE HEROES!" it really pissed the antis off to no end on the 17th, when we were way outnumbered by them. More importantly though, I think the sentiment expressed on that banner gave heart to and spoke the minds of the people who were there defending the clinic, and the clinic workers who have faced steady harassment from these organized bigots for eight straight years.

On the 24th, the pro-women side far outnumbered the bigots, who beat a hasty retreat--and for the first Saturday in eight years, patients and staff were able to enter the clinic without harassment. In keeping with what has become a World Can't Wait tradition, we asked the over 70 clinic defenders present to sign the banner, as testament to our commitment to women's full rights and what we had achieved that day, and presented it as our collective gift to Family Reproductive Health for the crucial work that they do.
