@PolyRuni i have seen many blimps; the hanger vodka blimp, the direct TV blimp, a white blimp, and a green blimp are just some of them.

We used to live near the airport where the Goodyear blimp was based when it came to our city and have watched it land many times. That was a number of years ago, though, and I had forgotten how the landing process went. Thanks for posting this. It brings back a lot of memories of our young son's delight in going to the airport to see the blimp.

Airship. It's a pity these things are no more used for long-range transportation like planes. I think it would be pretty cool to fly over the ocean seeing it from an airship, wich is slow enoungh to let you see every detail of the world below you. A bit like flying ships, that's why they are also called airships.

How much does a blimp like this cost? is there a required amount of crew? do you need a lisence to fly it?
-
What they should have purchased to replace their old classic blimps is a new classic blimp like the Skyship 600L (AMS) or even the AT12 from Hybrid Air Vehicles, as both will be much cheaper to buy, operate and train crew for.

Pity Goodyear have given up on their old but tough and reliable American classic design of blimp and opted for a new German Zeppelin. They will find out that only the pilots at DZR know how to fly them well on windy or thermally days. The engineers will also have fun, as that is another job for real experts. The groundcrew won't be laughing when it gets windy on mast either.

@Tricksncrafts cables installed in concrete blocks in the ground with HHO balloons holding the hooks above the landing pad, the craft would fly up to the cable, latch on, and wench itself down. I chose HHO because it can be generated using water and electricity [solar]
however if that is the maintenance crew for the craft then catching it would be cheaper not to install the system.
-
@MisterInnovation yeah but the damage to the ground will be expensive and where would the harpoons hook on to ??
-
it goes pass my house every week

It, or one like it, is flying over Merseyside, Uk, at the moment

I haven't seen a real life blimp until yesterday. It was a orange blimp advertising the new Conan show. But I have to tell you... that blimp changed my life. Seeing a blimp in real life is one of the coolest things you could see
