  • Playing a C root with a Bb major chord over it isn't really a sustained chord, even though it contains the F, which is the sustained note in a Csus. Especially when played in the voicing you put it in, it just becomes an eleventh chord. C9sus is misleading unless you are resolving the F down to an E.

  • I would agree. Misleading isn't the right word. I would say its not exact. But maybe 80% correct.

With all lead sheets and chord symbols there is flexibility to interpret them at least that much and even reharmonize a bit. I would say that changing C7 chords to Csus is very common because their function is the same. They FUNCTION as a dominant sound or a 5 chord sound. This conversation is very esoteric and would be lost on most piano players. Its a good one to have though!

  • i'm a just starting out, but i want to play gospel chords & RnB chords. Got anything for beginners?

  • If you've got all the major and minor triads down then start on their inversions!

I have lots of videos about major and minor triads and a whole ebook that shows them all on the blog.

Those are the first steps for gospel or any genre of music!

    Thanks!

    Chris

  • how we call that,i mean when you slides chords quickly,it sounds so good...gospel players like to do that

  • I think you mean grace notes?

grace notes are a single note that is quickly played into another note.

    :) :) :)
