You may put a finger into the design and touch the foam to see if it is getting dry. But it's always a good idea to add a little water every few days to a foam base. I usually take my design and place it under a tap of water. When the water runs off the container, I know that the foam is saturated and then I empty the excess water. Hope this is helpful.
