    What happened was they expressed a thought/desire/story by combining a melodic vocal presentation of a set of lyrics with the sounds produced by instruments hooked up to amplification devices and certain sound modifiers chosen by the users of said instruments. All of this was recorded in a studio and placed on a CD, creating what society would consider to be music.
