Here is a quick video on how I change my fluid on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee's transfer case.

  • I didn't use one but you have two options- a pen from a welding supply store or you can always use a paint pen : )

  • Did mine tonight, uses ATF-4 for my Select Trak. I had not changed the transfer case in a Long time, oil was black. No more poor shifting, it moves in and out of 4wd and 2wd real nice. Good job.

  • @mrwiggles2 Amazing what some new fluid can do, isn't it? It's about time for me to do mine again....

  • Is this as simple for a 2002 Nissan Xterra?

  • @Reverseflush - I've never seen the tcase on a Nissan, but almost all are the exact same...

  • @jbrunsonjr how many qurats did it take? my jeep 4.o uses regular tranny oil in the transfer case

  • @lol123321123321 - I can't remember off the top of my head. I think less than two quarts, though. WKJeeps website is where I looked it up in advance if that helps....

  • Where did you get that pump from?

  • I did my nissan called for ATF fluid but the dealer puts in gear oil hummmm. Jeeps pretty simple and plan on doing my crd. Front diff and transfercase needing doing. Chrysler atf 4 orielys should be good enough

  • thanks, for sharing your knowledge,on jeep,i as a part of the community feel proud with this spirit.

  • @Reverseflush I just uploaded one for a 2007 frontier, I haven't seen one on an xterra, but it might be similar enough.

  • I have a rather silly question- what kind of marker are you using to mark the drain plugs with & where do you get them? I've asked about them at a couple of parts stores in Alaska, but they didn't seem to know what I wanted and tried to sell me a sharpie marker :-p

  • It was easier for me to use a ratchet and hex socket than an allen wrench but I guess your way works just as fine haha

  • Dude, perfect. I changed mine today. No jack, no problem. Mine is Overland edition so it had a skid plate that I just let the oil hit and drain though large hole. Managed to peel away some stick and rock debris that was hanging out too. Nice. Went to the store and got a 10mm Hex socket since I knew I only had 6 and under! Perfect!
