I grew up in Montana and my dad used to tell us this story and we would cry every time. When I went away to college in Washington State I met a girl from Ft Benton who asked me I knew about "Old SHEP" we both cried............

passed through fort benton last year while touring around, its worth a visit for other reasons also, lovely place and wonderful people whom you can stop and ask any question and they are more than pleased to tell you about the town they are very proud of...not much to see of the fort but great place.

Awww I love Shep! Every year I go to Montana, I would climb up to his statue and visit his grave. RIP Shep :)

I remember loving Shep as a boy. We drove past his grave site almost daily on our way to the farm.

I saw the movie Hachiko today and I must say I cried so much, and Im a man.
My girlfriend cried aswell and we reflected upon so many things, such as Gods way of teaching us faithfulness, even thru a dog.
I saw the Shep's link within Wikipedia at Hachikos story and I had to look it up.
May God bless all good and loving pet owners out there :)

This is such a sad story yet such a powerful testament to a dog's faithful bond with its master.
