I recently traveled to Northern Uganda and set up an Art Therapy service in an orphanage for former child soldiers and young people affected by conflict and trauma.

Great work David! What kind of art training did you do with the staff? Was the program sustained after the volunteers left? Just curious because our group did the same thing in Kenya and after a couple of months the art program fell by the wayside.

The project is still going strong. Soon the staff will attend further training on art-based technique for the treatment of PTSD in children.

I will also return to deliver workshops in nearby villages and schools in order to reduce community stigma, provide parents, guardians and teachers with the necessary tools to look after the emotionally wounded children in their care, stop trans-generational trauma transmission, and help to interrupt the cycle of violence.

    Thanks for your interest.

I have been supporting these children since 2009. I know and love these faces as if they were my very own children. I've been and spent weeks with them and care about them so much. We do have child sponsorship also in this orphanage. Thanks for your work and help! We will be doing a Christmas project for them. Maybe we can work together? Thank you, David. This is a true account of the damage done by the LRA and their reign of terror. The Art Therapy service will make a huge difference in the lives of these young people. Continue the good work. You have my support. Suzanna E. Nelson (Author of 'Nightmare Along the River Nile - Abducted by the LRA')
