Liberal Finance Minister Nick Minchin admitted that the Howard Government's plans to go further on IR in a speech he made to the HR Nicholls Society in March 2006.
He said, "...we do need to seek a mandate from the Australian people at the next election for another wave of industrial relations reform. I think we are - it is ridiculous to say this is an extravagant and radical reform. That is the Labor mantra because they do want to scare the horses. They know, as Richard said, its evolution not revolution. And there is still, there is still, there is a long way to go."
