During our trash pick scheduled on October 5th,2008, the National Honor Society encountered an indigo snake preying on a rattle snake. The indigo snake was victorious, and snacked on the rattler as we watched and witnessed the hour long event.

tis been corrected, yes in the video I put "blue indigo snake"...my apologies to those it may offend, it is an indigo snake
(thanks to Indigosnakes)

Note: We had men from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department with us & they allowed and supervised everything.

  • Where was this filmed?

  • @paulcliftonevans it was filmed on our high school campus =) along the entrance lane to our school

  • Check out my video of my male eating a bowl of mice. In the video it certainly looks black, but in person you can tell it's such a dark blue it's almost black. We say black phase as opposed to red phase (whereby the anterior ventral scute scales are red) to differentiate between the two phases. I've never heard any herpetologist say blue indigo snake.

  • well I won't argue. I guess it's a texas slang,then...I read somewhere on a website that to Texans,it's known as the Blue Indigo, as a nickname. =)

    I appreciate the correction.

  • Why are you calling it a "Blue" Indigo snake? Indigo IS the color.

  • the Eastern Indigo Snake; as we were told, is best known in black...it's just the way it was named. at least that's what I remember. =\ correct me if I'm wrong. this snake was blue
