Louie Shelton recorded the original version "Last Train to Clarksville" is the debut and number-one single by The Monkees, included on the group's 1966 self-titled album, that was released one month later.
Recorded at RCA Records Studio A, Hollywood, on July 25, 1966, "Last Train to Clarksville" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
According to the song's authors, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, the song is their protest of the Vietnam War and tells the story of a young man who has been drafted.

  • @petahbuilt1 Yea he does the flamenco parts on Valeri. The way I understand it (and I could be wrong) is that every musician in the building tried to record that part and none could quite get it right until Shelton took a crack at it. I've always been amazed by that particular piece and I've heard others play it but the guys in the studio were right, no one quite gets it as right as Louie Shelton.

  • It's great to see the lead break played by the guy who created it.I've been wantin' to learn that solo for a long time.

  • It's great to finally see the solo played by the guy who created it.I've been wantin' to learn that break for a long time. Now if only the gentleman singin' would learn the words...........

  • I need to know if he did the guitar picking on JW Coop too???
