I'm not sure about this, but I think the bass is doing something to make this more 'driving". Instead of playing the I and V it sounds to me like it's staying on the I. But it's hard to hear.
Actually a lot of top bluegrass bands are opting for the electric bass rather than acoustic. I personally prefer the acoustic sound and tradition, but electrics are easier to cart around to gigs.

I always really liked these guys. vocals are great, sammy shelor rocks on banjo. they were a great band "in the day".
