How do you decide what is important online? I like to make videos, but I love keeping up with my friends. Where do you get the time? How much is too much?

  • Thought provoking questions...one of the reasons I started exploring online video a few years back related to being burned out creating "traditional media," and wanting to find my way back to the pure joy of creating in the first place. If it becomes too much of a slog, you run the risk of forgetting why you love it so much in the first place.

  • @WorldAccordingtoRich Exactly. Most of that is gone because the novelty has worn off.

  • Every few months I take a couple weeks off of YouTube. Since I do two videos a week - I need to recharge my batteries and get some fresh ideas. Facebook and Twitter are always on, no matter what I'm doing but my use of FB in particular has dwindled. I still use it and check it all day - but not like I did back in the days of "You've been hit in a pillow fight by..." I cut out all that stuff (except Words with Friends) and stick strictly to the social part.

  • @TheSchwartzcaster There is less of that excitement we've known from a couple of years ago.

  • Nah, you have way too much fun. No break is happening.

  • @TheWoodcreekFaction LOL! Not much. I'm going to get away from the "video every week" routine and do what you guys do..only record on those two times a month when I'm sober.

  • Yeah... I pretty much stick to YouTube and Facebook... a bit of Twitter for spice. On the phone, I like Instagram 'cause it's easy.

  • Gotta agree with the other comments here... As much as we enjoy your almost daily morning videos, Bill, it's most important that you enjoy making them. When things starts to feel forced, stepping back is something absolutely needed. We'll support ya no matter the changes. :]

  • @billtvmacon2 Further, i would say that high-quality stuff comes from people who can keep things in balance well enough that the production of content doesn't end up being a massive headache of trying to meet a deadline.

So all things considered, this is a good topic for discussion - how do you choose your priorities for online activities? or for that matter, any activities?

  • I still refuse to use FB. I know, I am missing out a lot, but it is my way of limiting my social media time. To keep track on youtube is almost enough, then I read some tweets but rarely tweet myself. And I upload on dailybooth when I feel like it, not every day like the name suggests. Actually I don´t want to have more websites to check every day.

  • @billtvmacon2 I'm actually ridiculously lucky. I got to see the Green Brothers last night in Santa Monica, and John commented that he loves to write. So getting to write for a living is almost like getting paid for recreation. My job is like that to me (I teach Chemistry to college students.) I am fortunate to align my passions with that for which I get paid.

in re: content creators on the internet, I think the high-quality stuff comes from people who are able to do the same.

  • @billtvmacon2 hahaha! we got a new one coming out next week. you rock man. don't forget it. we should do something different. get a Google+ hangout together.

  • @billtvmacon2 What I mean, though, is that, for most who create, there's a core motivation - an enjoyment a content creator gets out of communicating to an audience that reaches beyond the current method - be it video, radio, writing, etc.- to paraphrase, perhaps the disconnect comes when it becomes more about the medium than the message...?

  • When you start saying to yourself "I've GOT to get that video done for this week." instead of "Hey! That idea would make a great video sometime." you know you are in trouble. When you more or less force content, even good content, it starts being WORK and stops being FUN. I don't use FB. Heck I think I'm one of the 3 people in the world that don't Tweet!

You do what you do VERY well my friend... don't burn out on us.

  • As long as you check in with us here on the second channel, so that we know you're alive and well, it should be fine having less videos on your main channel. As for other networks, I only use google + to join in hangouts. I mainly use twitter, facebook and tumblr. I refuse to get into more stuff. People want me to join Pinterest. Nope, not gonna happen..
