Presentation at Texas Freethought Convention, Oct. 8, 2010. Dr. Marlene Winell describes a mental health condition called RTS, based on her clinical work with clients recovering from harmful forms of religious involvement. In Part 3, Winell discusses abuses of childhood indoctrination, toxic theology, and symptoms of Religious Trauma Syndrome. Quotes from clients and slides of art therapy provide illustration. Dr. Winell is a psychologist and the author of "Leaving the Fold: A Guide for Former Fundamentalists and Others Leaving Their Religion." More information is at marlenewinell.net.

  • When I became an atheist, my mom said "but you were saved when you were 4!" I don't even remember being 4. How could I be responsible for my eternal soul at that age? Heck, I could kill a man at age 4 and not be held responsible due to my age!

Lol, n00b! Try takin' the spaces outta your filenames and you'll have FAR less "%20"s in your URL! Lol

  • I read the Bible from cover to cover as a young boy. When I read the Bible and understood what it actually says, I feel into deep despair. I would lie in bed weeping that God and Jesus could be so cruel.

Fortunately, I went back, studied the Bible and came to the conclusion that there was no reason to believe in an "eternal hell." If anyone is interested, my conclusions can be read at:
