Watching this is so funny. I know exactly what was going through your mind as you were heading out. Seems like you are never more aware of your surroundings in a moment like that when you're testing something. lol
I stilll remember the first time I took an electric project "out there".
So much fun. Makes all the work worth it.

very impressive project ,what sort of range does it have and how long to charge her up ? have you thought about trying to get a small petrol generator runnin on hho to charge your car for free ? just an idea i had i dont know if its poss

I can see you're in Madison, WI. I'm from Monona... anyway. What are you going to do for heat this winter?

@mpwelk
Last winter, I put a freestanding oil-filled electric radiator right behind the passenger seat. I ran an extension cord out the window to a timer.
About half an hour before I left in the morning, the heater would turn on and warm the entire inside of the car. I would unplug it and drive off, being toasty warm. The thermal mass of the oil would stay hot for about ten minutes or so. It worked really well, but would be cold on the ride home at the end of the day.

The look on your face is priceless when you say "and we're home!"
You have a very wonderful car, I'm currently converting a 1995 Lada Samara to electricity. My first video will likely be up in two weeks time.

What is the top speed at 72V? What do you think is the max voltage the motor could safely handle? I saw a 70kw go kart here on youtube that uses a 6.7" forklift motor and a zilla controller at 133v so was just wondering. Was thinking of doing a project like this using a forklift motor as it would save a bundle vs netgain or advanced DC offerings.

It does 45 mph on 72V. It was never a motor really designed for speed. I did run it a few times at 144V. The motor seemed to handle it fine and got it over 70 mph.
