This was the end of the April 3rd sit-in at the University of Michigan. Students occupied the office of President Mary Sue Coleman, demanding that Michigan adopt a code of ethical standards for all suppliers This would end U-M's practice of manufacturing University apparel in sweatshops. Coleman had all 12 students arrested after refusing to negotiate in person, stating that "I don't give in to demands from students." By taking a hard line, Coleman demonstrated that she views socially active students as her enemies. The Sweatfree Coalition will continue to fight for ethical sourcing at Michigan.
Smiling at the camera. So brave.
