I actually heard one teacher say it wasn't in her union contract that she had to use email or a computer! Sadly, there are many teachers reluctant to use technology in their classrooms, even when available. Those are the teachers this video is referring to. Come into the 21st century, people... your students' futures depend on it!!

Please send this message to your local elected Government representative. The teachers are weary from constantly asking them for money for new technology in the classroom. If you don't want to pay for it then STFU
-
@vzteacher I agree as a future teacher there are many school districts that cannot afford to bring new technology into the classroom. it is not the teachers fault for that.
-
@vzteacher the main problem is funding and sometimes the conservative attitude of some administrators to limit education and learning in a traditional way, such policies implemented by the school also has limited the use of technology within classrooms. It's a big offense to the modern world of depriving people the right to use technology for education which is a good intention. I, as a student, have to go to all the permit crap just to sneak in my tablet as a replacement for books :/

I game 31/2 hours, I veg infront of the teli, I listen to my ipod like ALWAYS, I text mom's cash to oblivion, I secretly search out the nasties online! My parents love me. Got me hooked so's they wouldn't have to pay me any attention!! I'm so hooked now I expect to CREATE facebook accounts, avatars, blogs, - oh wait THAT's NOT CREATING - the shlep who created the program is the real creator I'm just mechanically punching in buttons on a keyboard. Anyway .... TEACH me to ....

Educational technology is great... if you can actually manage to get some of it in your classroom. There will always be the haves and the have-nots when it comes to funding, and the latter group gets stuck having to do more with less. Besides, if a kid has no support at home, all the classroom technology in the world won't fix his problems. Outside of the teachers themselves, parents are still the #1 determining factor in academic success.

@vzteacher You're taking out your frustration and anger on the wrong people. If you know the value of technology in the classroom, then this video is not talking to you. If you are unable to get it into your classroom, then it is something the school board needs to discuss and realize. It's not saying it's your fault.
This video just pisses me off. As a teacher, I would absolutely LOVE to have the technology mentioned in the video. You assume that it's the teacher that have no passion for technology or desire to use it, and that is a load of crap! I'm sick and tired of people blaming teacher for every frickin' thing that is wrong with the educational system. I have asked MANY times to get laptops in my room, a Smart Board, digital cameras, professional development to learn how to implement them.

What is it like being a teacher? It is being a teacher, a guidance counselor, a policeman, a detective, a judge, a nurse, and a bookkeeper all at one time. It is both exhilarating and frustrating; it is both exalting and humiliating…Give me a classroom with its you-never-know-what-to-expect atmosphere. –Blackboard Bulletin
