This is my reply to Shay Carl's Shayloss diet. I'd been meaning to post a vlog about my dieting progress, and this seemed like a good opportunity. Feel free to comment, ask questions, whatever.

My channel is about my experiences living in Japan. Check it out of that interests you. I also maintain a regular blog, where I embed most of my YouTube videos, so feel free to check me out there too.

  • As a counter-point, I actually know more white girls than white guys who have come here. I think that attributing race or gender to the trend of post-grads moving to Japan is a mistake.

Anyways, I'm a Asian Studies major looking to do graduate work in Comparative Social Psychology, and fluency in Japanese (for research and experiment conducting purposes) is a self-imposed prerequisite.

  • True, bananas are cheap, but they are already ripe in the store, so you gotta eat 'em FAST! I guess I was thinking more things like apples, tomatoes, and various other fruits: the stuff they don't really grow much in Japan.

My food recommendation: a banana based fruit smoothie (blenderized) that is 50% banana, then whatever other fruits are in season. The banana gives it the smooth texture and tames the flavor, so you don't need yogurt or anything, just fruit! Quick, healthy, and delicious.

  • I don't mean this in a bad way, but what's up with all the white guys moving to Japan? Haha, I know lots of them who take Japanese in college and move there. Just curious.

  • Yes I am doing the raw diet!!! Actually its not that expensive. Groceries I think are much cheaper but I do some shopping around. I can get about 15 bananas for 350yen and half head of cabbage for 128yen. The most expensive things that I have bought were some strawberries that were 315yen for about 15 berries. So what part of Japan are you in??? Hope you have a great time here!!!

  • Wow, keep up the good work! You're doing the raw diet in Japan? Impressive, I would think that would be really hard and expensive. Produce prices are ridiculous here! Do you go anywhere special to buy your food, or just a regular grocery/supermarket?

  • Hey, I'm in Japan too!!! Im glad that you are doing a life changing experience ie moving to Japan changing your diet. Hope you have a great night.
