We were celebrating Sydney Festival 2011 at Domain. At the same time, we remembered our brothers & sisters battling flood water all over QLD, VIC & Northern NSW of Australia. Thanks to Sydney Symphony, Sydney philharmonic Choir, John Bell Shakespeare & everybody turn this beautiful music performance to fund raising event. We have greatest musician, stage lighting tech, firework expert all works on this Tchaikovsky master piece. It is a very memorable night that I wish to share with everyone in the world. Please lend a hand to our flood victims by donating to qld.gov.au/floods official Queensland Government website. Thanks!
Words from my daughter -
It was a blistering day. The kind of day where the sun beats upon you, or everything for the matter of fact, relentlessly, letting none escape from the intensity of its sweltering grasp. The impact of its blazing brilliance left people dazed, blinded by its incandescent flare whilst the harsh heat fired the endless chain of prayers for a spot of shade or lust for the comfort of an air-con. The desire was unanimous.
We, my father and I, sat there lazily on our perfectly positioned picnic mat relatively near the front of centre stage. I couldn't help but feel a bit smug looking at the crowd of other fellow spectators stretched far and wide with their less superior views. After a soporific ride to the city, the drowsiness of which was lulled and sustained by the heat our oven of a car, we had arrived over five hours early for which we cheekily laid out our mat in reserve and thus, to which we owe our beautiful view to. It was definitely worth it.
We were here to watch a festival. Festival; a simple, short eight letter word, yet one such word emcompassed a great multitude of expression. A festival may sound simple and straightforward -- get a spot, talk, listen to music and watch fireworks -- but the emotions and ambiance of this festival transcends the divinity of words; too complicated and deep for mere letters to convey them with justice. However, what I can say is that I was astounded, absolutely astounded by the generosity, benevolence and free-spirit that mankind can possess. This festival not only draws out these magnificent qualities, but augments it, and gives method to extend this goodwill. We went there to enjoy the music but by the end of the experience we have gained so much more than that -- we have gained irreplaceably valuable memories and friendships. This event demonstrates optimally, that kindness and respect equates in equal kindness and respect. Simple actions such as offering space to a latecommer, offering food and conversing with others, be they complete strangers or friends etc, all these altruistic acts contribute to the unity, depth and inexplicability associated with the word, "festival"; and so, as the inundation of people multiplied, so did the regale.
To understand the meaning of the word festival, one must first understand that the success of the festival is not determined by the amount of money spent, nor the number of stores, programs or special guests featured, but by the depth and strength of the connection formed between people; people regardless of one's age, gender, race or appearance. This unconditional trust and openess expressed by everyone formed an immortal bond -- heart, mind and soul. Knowing, that for these precious few hours, you are sharing happiness with thousands of others, listening to the same music, hearing the same voice, watching the same fireworks, that these feelings are reciprocated with upmost purity, bereft of even a speckle selfishness or ulterior motives, invigorates the experience, amiplifying to something so much more, or as Mastercard would aptly say, "priceless". These contagious emotions shine like magic, swiping away depression and solitude to uplifting joy. It is magic. Not as in magic with a swish of a wand, or the twitch of the fingers, but the magic of laughter, one beyond the comprehension of science or dead numbers. You could even call it a glimpse of Utopia.
For one night, this park, a park of thousands and thousands of people, ones that you may know, ones that you may have walked passed in the street or sat in the same café before or even ones that you have never and will never even see again, but for this one night, this one magical night, you are all connected; all united; all a family.
