Some 24 years ago--this song, along with many others helped me grasp the beginning of what would become my vision for Christian Music as an evangelism tool......A quest that had me three times take positions in Radio stations that ultimately, ended up pretty much being wheel spinning.....still get a lump in my throat as i hear it again today.

I have felt like Annie at different times in my life. God delivered me from eighteen years of depression and fifteen years of suicidal thinking thirteen and a half years ago. I have had a few bumps in the road since then, but He always pulls me through.

I love Petra, but this song bothers me to the quick. It goes against every experience I have ever known in how and why Jesus gave his own life for my me. I have known family friends who have taken their own lives for what ever reason they saw fit to do so. It seems to me, in this song, the family should have told "Annie" they loved her and cared more often, not that Jesus does. "Annie", in her heart, may have already known of Jesus's love, and maybe, that's why she left...to be with Him.

you may think that but think about all the people you would be hurting when you commit suicide you lose your friends, you lose your family they may not show it but underneath somewhere theres love. I had friends who were thinking about commiting suicide but i told them it wasnt the answer i told them about christ and now they live happily. the bible says that Christ will be a father to the fatherless and in psalms27:10 it says"though my mother and father forsake me, the lord will recieve me"

as someone who grew up as a Christian, left the church, considered suicide, became atheist, then agnostic, and eventually found my way back to Christ, I know something about trying to heal yourself with sex, drugs, etc, and it just doesn't work. It took me too long to figure out that looking at Christians wasn't the answer, since many (not all) were hypocrites - it was finding a personal relationship with Jesus. That has made all the difference in the world....
