During the reign of the Taliban, around three million Afghanis fled to Iran as illegal immigrants. They are still not been integrated there today. When 17-year old Mahi falls in love with the Afghani student Heiran, her family puts up fierce resistance, and she must decide between them and Heiran. Documentarist Shalizeh Arefpours feature film debut is simultaneously a love story and a portrait of society; a sensitive account of an unaccepted love that resists all prejudice.
Iran 2009, 88 Min. B + R: Shalizeh Arefpour. D: Baran Kosari,
Mehrdad Sedighian, Khosro Shakibaei, Farhad Aslani.

  • i saw this yesterday. it was beautiful! made me cry. the plot is pretty straightforward, yet the acting, gestures, and music make "Heiran" so much more than a simple love story.

    Hi Sam

Where can you get a Heiran DVD in London?

    Thanks

  • I have recently seen the DVD in London. I was deeply impressed by the movie. I was touched because it was a pure and simple love story. Baran Kosari and Meherdad Sedigi were perfect. I was delighted to see them this much embedded into their roles. It was as emotional as "The Piano" by Jane Campion. Even its lovely astonishing music brought back the main theme of “the piano” soundtrack back to my mind (composed by Michael Nyman). I am proud of the Iranian female directors and artists.
