Someone needs to teach that person finger control. From the time the rounds were loaded until he fired his finger was inside the trigger guard and ready to pull. This is no good and is going to get someone hurt or killed.

No finger inside the guard until ready to fire. No exceptions!

When I load my m1 after pushing in the clip the bolt comes forward a little but I have to hit the op rod handle for it to come into battery.

Yeah the indoor ranges are worse than the outdoor ranges, but in Switzerland, there isn' t a lot of outdoor ranges, just the military ranges, or you can once a month go outdoor.

I just got my first M1 the other day, and I have a doozie of a black-and-blue thumb. You gotta watch it when you try to lock the oprod back. Be sure it's back all the way, otherwise it might just be hung up on the follower, and not actually locked via the Op Rod catch. That's what happened to me. Dang, that smarts! Really! not fun at all!

Can't wait to take her to the range for the first time.

I have to agree with the commenters regarding the finger inside the trigger guard. If you are going to shoot, you need to know the safety rules FIRST. Age isn't relevant. Not being hard on the poster, but just emphasizing the importance of good habits, and yea, us gun owners face an uphill battle against bad perceptions, and accidents don't help that. So, let's all do our part! And have fun!

True. But my experience is, is that the kind of people who rookies expect to be a prime example of firearms safety, often aren't. I'm talking about hunters, military personnel, veteran shooters etc. These people have been around firearms all of their life. It's nothing exciting anymore. It has become a routine. The new shooters are quite often the most serious about firearms handling and safety. They are enthousiastic and eager to learn about their weapon. Proper guidance is key.

Absolutely. I exercise finger control on all firearms, including toys, laser tag weapons, paintball guns, etc. It's a good habit to get into from the very start.

Yeah I was cleaning my M1 last time I went to the range and I didn't pull the op rod all the way back. The bolt slipped forward and almost took off my thumb.

mine will slide forward directly after the "clip" is pushed in so i gotta get it out fast haha fun stuff

Age doesn't matter. If someone is going to shoot, they need to exercise proper safety. Now, moving forward, you see how to properly exercise finger control. :)

Not trying to be hard on you, but us gun owners have a never ending up hill battle. It's small accidents, especially with kids, that ruin the sport for all of us. Safety is the number one priority when handling firearms.
