  • I just watched Mr. Campbell last night on The sanford and son T.V. show and it reminded me of the Aames home loan commercials of my childhood. I remember Mr. Campbell lived near me but i dont remember exactly which city. I lived in San Dimas, Ca. and they were having a gathering at city hall and Mr. Campbell was a celebrity guest. I was on my bike behind the stage and he turned to me and smiled, I can see that face to this day. I was told by a man there he lived near by. Maybe La verne?

  • @barmtrail- Yes we lived in LaVerne. He was Grand Marshall of San Dimas' Western Daze Parade. That could have been the day you remember. Thank you for sharing your memory.

  • This is my dad. R.I.P. I love you

  • @tiffstoe Thats it!! yes the western daze parade. Thanks for that. I remember now. I moved from San Dimas to La verne and still love the area. San Dimas and La verne are still the 2 great cities they once were.

I do miss the San Dimas Canyon theatre however and how i could watch 2 movies for 50cents and my huffy bike would still be there chained to the pole when i walked out the doors. I took a pic B4 they tore it down. I miss the helms bakery trucks as well. GOD BLESS your dads memory.

  • This was one of my first & favorite AAMES commercials I seen in the 70's. I must have been about 5 or 6 yrs old at the time. Thanks for posting these. I will check for more of these later.

  • I've been asking about these commercials for nearly a decade - bless you for uploading them!

  • Three bits of trivia on this one:

The ship footage at the end is supposedly from the movie "Tora Tora Tora."

This is the much-less-seen longer version of the spot; the 15-second version that ends with the ships played for months, however.

The reason it freeze-frames at the very end is that Pat Campbell immediately lost his footing after standing up and took a header into the Pacific, which gets VERY COLD in winter, when this filmed. I don't believe they made him do any more takes after that.

  • Thanks for sharing these. Have the one with King Kong trying to get him?
