At first I thought the 1973 smash hit written by Irwin Levine and Russell Brown was a song about a soldier returning from Vietnam. Later I realized that was not the case from the words "Im really still in prison." But I still suspect that the guy was imprisoned for evading draft. In any way "Tie a Yellow Ribbon around the Old Oak Tree" always reminds me of the Vietnam War which marked the beginning of America's unstoppable decline.
Jack: We very much appreciate the sheet music you sent us. .
It was a much more noble song than that. It speaks of trying to get a new start in life after committing crime and a jail term. The secret is found in that line about coming home on a bus.
"Yellow Ribbon" told us that we all make mistakes but that we can be forgiven if we only ask for that. (It's a religious thing.)
Your teacher plays magnificently! That is a song I battled with for years and can't get right. She plays perfectly and with real character in just a few days!
Bravo!

deaforganist001: Thanks for educating me. Now I have understood, for the first time, that the song has nothing to do with the war and the subsequent decline of your country. Actually I've loved this tune and the lyrics since I was in my late-30s because they seem to make me see a dim light of hope amid the predawn darkness.
