@butlertyrek It's 'Vivi ingrato' with the recitative.

anyone know the name of this aria?? her voice is indescribable....the last note is fantastic!!!
-
@MastersoftheOpera they said she was bette davis with high notes!
-
@wbondar at each city opera performance i attended--19--the audience woudl literally swooon during the high ending, you would just hear sills singing the note, and hundreds in the audience repsonding with ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh1

@MrAndredekock from someone who saw sills do it 19 times0--the answer is absolutely not!

sad for sills that when she recorded devereux ther was nothing to compare it too, as was the same when she first performed it the city opera. a fiendishly difficult role, even if you can't act up a storm as sills did, and bring every phrase into clear dramatic focus with burning passion or sweet duclid phrasing as sills could. its taken 40 years and perhaps a dozen sopranos to show us, what a miracle sills was in this role, and that it is as, or more difficult to tackle than norma!

Will there ever be another Elizabeth like this? Her full opera recording done earlier in 1967 on CD is incomparable. Her voice has aged in this performance, but is there another soprano who can give a better interpretation this? You still inspire me from the grave Bev! Bravissima!

She was, in a word, magnificent.

I have the complete Westminter vinyl studio recording Sills did of Devereux in 1969 and it's great, but I think she's even better in the aria here in this clip. Remarkable... and that final top note is stunning.
That double attack on the D is one of the prettiest sounds I think I've heard Sills make.

I have always considered the Roberto Devereux by Beverly Sills one of the greatest achievements in Opera. Vivi ingrato never fails to leave me speechless!
