Did you know Ode to Joy was originally going to be called the Ode to Freedom. It was changed at the last second due to the French Revolution. That's why it's Kaworu's song, it's his ode to freedom, the ode to his death.

@anchan191989 Asuka is actually 1/4 German, 1/4 Japanese, half American. She was raised in Germany, though. Every character's last name is the name of a Japanese battleship, except for Asuka; her middle name is the name of an American battleship, and her mother's, 'Zeppelin' was a German one, I believe.
In Rebuild of Evangelion, her new last name, Shikinami, is the name of another Japanese ship.
That answered--awesome AMV, and fully as creepy as Evangelion deserves.

@anchan191989 If you read the manga and watched the anime you'll see she's part German and part Japanesse. Her name is as such because of her choosing.

@Domine865 Actually,deep research into the Angels of Evanglion reveals that them reaching Lilith wasnt an attempt to destroy humanity at all. Seele and Gendo were attempting instumentality, and considered the Angels a threat to that plan. Contact with Adam (revealed to be Lilith by kaworu) would have actually granted their wish. The Angels were beings fated to live alone. Coming into contact with Adam would have changed them human,or for lilith contacting adam- humans becoming god, a single mind
