On the Day of Atonement every Jew must call himself to a reckoning of his/her deeds and thoughts in the past year. And throughout the year, a Jew is responsible for his own ethical life. This suffering of God on the cross is a marketing strategy invented by the Catholic Church to make people feel guilty and keep coming back to church and dropping money into church coffers.
