The lighthouse at Hartland Point, north Devon. Not a great day for filming, but Lundy Island could just be made out through the gloom. The road leading to the lighthouse has eroded so access to the lighthouse is now only by helicopter. The Johanna (shipwreck seen in video) wrecked here in 1982. The foghorn was deactivated October 2010.

I would not advise climbing the cliffs as rock falls here are very frequent.

  • Sold! 1 Feb 2012 the new Beacon comes into play, therefore the light gets switched off at Hartland Lighthouse on 31 Jan 2012.

  • what is that dome tower? a water tower or something?

  • @KnittingPasta Radar.

  • This lighthouse is to be switched off soon and replaced by a light on a pole on the cliff top. The severity of the erosion around the lighthouse makes any repair uneconomic. This station has not long left.

  • @hellooldchap No, the public fought for it, it is still in service.

  • @Umpqua1012 Not any more. See TH website. It is up for sale at £500,000. Replaced with a beacon.

  • @jane1975 Unless the fortify its foundation.

  • I am going to make a tribute video to this lighthouse! I didn't like the Hartland Point Lighthouse in the beginning, but it's grown on me, and I think it's a beautiful station! If I had more than a half a million big ones, I would move here and buy this station. I would fix it up and open it to the public.

  • Goodbye Hartland Point! Your light will b missed!

  • I finally found out that it is up for sale. What a shame. The last I ever saw it's light shine was on WorldWideLighthouses's video. What a real Shame! ={. But why put it up for half a million bucks?

  • @hellooldchap I checked. There is nothing about the station being up for sale, and nothing about the station being replaced by a light pole.
