@kingsley42 Ford Prefect is loosely based on the Doctor. Douglas Adams said himself that the only difference between Ford Prefect and the Doctor is if given a choice between going to a party or saving the world, Ford Prefect would choose to go to the party, while the Doctor would choose to save the world.
