George Xu (Xu Guoming) talking to Scott P. Phillips about the differences between predators and humans. Xu explores the implications of these differences for martial arts training. The Chinese four-word phrase mentioned is from the Taijiquan Classics.

The discussion begins with the idea that the body should be what leads the movement. The whole torso should move first. Humans generally move the hand first.

The second part of the discussion deals with the idea that predators do not rely on strength for stability. Instead they use balance. This is a corollary to the idea that humans carry their weight with their legs.

He then goes on to discuss the idea that a predator's mind does not dwell on its body but on the wildlife around it; its outdoor "refrigerator." A predator is quiet (yin) while being in action (yang).

  • Humans are evolved predators and evolution has given us a brain that possesses a natural leaning to manipulating objects and uses them as deadly tools.

  • This is major difference between humans and predators (animals). Humans got guns and are not afraid to use them... :P

  • He's a totally amazing man and and incredible powerful fighter... I studied with him Xinyi Liuhe Quan ... on a stage, with a fajing, almost without moving his body, he totally smahsed my chest and it used to hurt me for more than a month...

  • in fight, u must become a predator- show ur animal brain. lol alot of time we see people slapping around like in mma or whatnot. a fight is instantaneous not dragged out- get in there, do your thing, and then your done, do something else. exactly like using the bathroom.
