April 25, 2009 -- The first planting day of the St. Francis Community Garden at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC. The garden is a community initiative in partnership with Leadership Greenville Class 35.
Did you know that community gardens help restore neighborhoods, promote physical, social and emotional well-being, foster neighborhood relationships and have been shown to reduce crime in some areas? The garden will serve as a source of engagement for neighborhood residents, members of the community and our hospital employees. Additionally, the garden will be a resource for fresh produce, provide a visual benefit to the community and be a basis for educational sessions on healthy living, nutrition and environmental sustainability.
