In this video I show you my homemade chronographs i've used to measure the velocity of my spudguns. Both have good and bad points, I prefer the Phototransistor one personally as it is easier for me to setup. Both work great though. Any questions, just ask. Much thanks to Jimmy101 and Technician1002 of Spudfiles.

I was wondering how close you have to be to the phototransistors to get a measurement?

Lets say you take a shotgun or rifle and you fire it from a distance of 2 meter, would it be possible to read something like that? Those projectiles/slugs are not very big and if they have to pass by close to the phototransistors it would be difficult to do´, or not?

Not sure. According to the guy who made the tutorial on making these (known as Jimmy101 on the Spudfiles forum), it should be able to pick up airsoft BBs (6mm) travelling supersonic, but probably not much faster than that. The PTs are only a few mm big, might be too hard to shoot over both from a distance of 2m reliably.

You could enhance the effect on the phototransisters though, like putting them inside a tube and making you shoot through the tube.
