In Sweden a "summercat", or in Swedish "sommarkatt", is when people get a cute pet cat for the summer holidays and then abandon it when they have to go back to work. This is a big problem in Sweden, because the cats usually starve to death.

When he sings "Abandoned as a summer cat" he refers to the feeling of being used and then abandoned when it really matters.

esta canción fue todo un bombazo en españa, recuerdo perfectamente aquel verano, aquel calor, aquella playa, aquella chica, aquella canción en el chiringuito y en el calor del coche rumbo a la playa, en el olor de crema sola, aquella ballena hinchable donde nos perdimos, aquellas holas, aquel partido de boley con las cervezas y de fondo esta canción... de esto ya hace bastantes años y se me sigue poniendo la carne de galina
