Neil Young is the solo debut album by Canadian musician, Neil Young. Released first in November 1968 and then partially remixed and re-released in January 1969, it was Young's first album after his departure from Buffalo Springfield.
Many sources cite that Neil Young was released in January 1969, however the album was originally released on November 12, 1968 (Young's 23rd birthday). The first release of the album used the Haeco-CSG encoding system. This technology was intended to make stereo records compatible with mono record players, but had the unfortunate side effect of degrading the sound in both stereo and mono. Young was unhappy with the sound quality of the first release. So the album was partially remixed in January 1969 and then re-released without Haeco-CSG processing. The "Neil Young" header was added to the album cover; previously the cover art had consisted of only the portrait. Copies of the original 1968 version are now rare and highly sought-after.
Neil Young was remastered and released on HDCD-encoded CD and digital download on July 14, 2009 as part of the Neil Young Archives Original Release Series. It is also planned to release the remastered version on audiophile vinyl and in high resolution digital on Blu-ray disc, although release dates for those formats have not yet been announced.
You can just close your eyes on this great classic. Every song on Neil Young's first album is a treasure. Recently, I had been thinking of all the songs on this album that I have not found on YouTube, and just recently, I have been back in touch with a very dear friend, Lisa...who has the same wonderful memories of when we use to play this album over and over. After talking to her, I realized it was time for this album to be heard here.
I make these videos to keep a great tune with us forever, and most of all, for those that will hear it for the first time. I love hearing a comment about how a song sparks a memory. I will never forget the first time I was introduced to this great album. It is an honour to be able to bring it to YouTube. I am thankful for the space to express my vision for it. I put this together a little too fast, but I just had to get this on here for my friend, Lisa.
The third photo of the sunrise on Rocky Shores was made by a friend, Kathie Lewis.
The photos of the mountains in Georgia were made by a very dear friend, Janice.
LYRICS:
Now that the holidays have come
They can relax and watch the sun
Rise above all
of the beautiful things
They've done.
Go to the country take the dog
Look at the sky without the smog
See the world laugh
at the farmers feeding hogs
Eat hot dogs.
What a pity
That the people from the city
Can't relate to the slower things
That the country brings.
Time itself is bought and sold.
The spreading fear of growing old
Contains a thousand foolish games
That we play.
While people
planning trips to stars
Allow another boulevard to claim
A quiet country lane
It's insane.
So the subtle face is a loser
This time around.
Here we are in the years
Where the showman
shifts the gears
Lives become careers
Children cry in fear
Let us out of here!
Thanks Sherry. I don't remember this particular song but I like it. Nice slides too. I'm gonna dig through my albums, have several Neil Young in my collection. Need to blow the dust off the old turntable and enjoy some old memories.
