I like what you said how Tolkein said that fairytales touch us because there is something magical beyong our world and we long for that. It's true, stories do that, the Bible does that too, it speaks of things that is beyond our reality.
So people can turn to either fantasy (it can be anything) to escape reality or turn to the truth that ends up connecting with reality.
