Partially, you must research what gives the US dollar it's value and hence the US economy stability. The oil producing nations sell their oil using US dollars. In Nov 2000, Saddam switched to Euros. If more oil producers did that, the US dollar would fall bad.

Partially, the invasion of Iraq was due to that. The US dollar is not backed by gold anymore...only by a monopoly on oil producers using it.
