How does a fielder know where to plant himself to catch a fly ball? It's all about physics.

  • trust me they are. u just dont really recognize it becuz they do it so fast and probably without realizing it. but ever wonder how almost every time they are placed perfectly under the ball

  • pussies? you call people who stand in the batter's box facing a guy who can throw 95-99 mph a pussy? hes standing in there not knowing if hes gonna get hit by that pitch, retard. he has the balls to face a pitcher like that. i wanna see some WR do that and not cringe

  • 1:40-1:54 i do those things!!! yay!!! its easy for a pop up cuz the ball starts to slow down at tis highest point to you just run to it. this is how i caught my last pop up

  • outfielders really just looks for three things. Loudness of the bat, how quickly it travels the first 100-150 feet or so, and how high it is. Judging whether or not the ball was pulled or sliced, or whether it's going to tail, sail, sink or cut is very advanced, but the easiest think to tell is when a ball is going to cut.

  • It takes scientists to figure out "Hey, look! The ball's going that way!"

Btw I love playing baseball and I suck ass at math! D:

Awesome video though. I enjoyed it.

Also, was this their way of trying to get nerds into sports?? XD

  • actually nobody is calculating velocities.........theyre just saying "LOOK ITS GOING THIS WAY"

  • @baseballispower idiot he said LEFT or RIGHT, not OVER your head or in FRONT of you.

  • who is that fat POS at the end of the video? IS that babe ruth?

  • This description is exactly what you don't do. Google papers on the LOT and OAC strategies and stop watching American 'science' TV.

  • Determining right or left is easy. If my head starts to go up more than 45 degrees and depending on the trajectory and speed, It's over your head so run back facing the ball. If in front, You have it stay in front then catch up to it.

  • haha, this video is great. Ofcourse, no one really cares about the actual physics of the game. Its all about learning things relatively, not numerically. Its not like an outfielder calculated the velocity of the ball is 10 feet deep and 15 feet left.

  • man when u catch the ball in centerfield, if u dont how fast its goin then u dont no if its a blooper that will fall in front of u or if its goin over ur head
