Mr. Silva, who served as Ambassador to the United States from 1993-94, discussed U.S.-Colombia relations and how Colombia is changing under President Santos. Under the administration of President Santos, Colombia is forging a new path to prosperity, with policies promoting economic growth, national unity and social development. President Santos has also enacted reforms to protect human rights and provide relief to victims of violence.
Ambassador Silva addressed topics such as the importance of the extension of The Andean Trade Preferences, the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement, Colombia's role in sharing lessons in security, and new areas of cooperation such as energy and the environment.
