THE FIFA PUSKÁS AWARD 2011

The race to determine the winner of the FIFA Puskás Award for the "best goal of the year" has started today, 18 November 2011, on FIFA.com. Fans from across the world will decide which of the ten goals selected by FIFA's football experts will be the winner of this award.

Users of FIFA.com and francefootball.fr will be able to vote from ten goals until 5 December when the three most voted-for goals will be disclosed during a press conference in Paris. Immediately after the announcement on 5 December, FIFA.com and francefootball.fr users will be able to vote again for their favourite from the three remaining goals. Voting will close and the winner will be revealed on the day of the FIFA Ballon d'Or gala on 9 January 2012.

The FIFA Puskás Award, created in honour and in memory of Ferenc Puskás, the captain and star of the Hungarian national team during the 1950s, will be presented for the third year in a row at the FIFA Ballon d'Or gala 2011, which will be held at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.

@proevomen90 Rooney's goal is overrated you say bc he wasn't even looking at the goal when he hit it? You don't think that one of the best strikers in the world knows where the goal is inside the 18 yard box? His back was to goal, so he couldn't see it even if he tried. Oh and that he shinned it? The ball flew perfectly into the far corner of the net, Joe Hart didn't even move. It was one of the goals of the year bc it was a spectacular bicycle kick and the WINNING goal in the Manchester Derby.

Why is Rooney's goal so overrated? He shins it and he isn't even looking at the goal when he hits it. Not doubting it was a piece of brilliance, but wondering why it is one of the goals of the year. Also, whoever doubts Messi's goal doesn't play football. To lob the ball over a diving keeper, with enough power for it to sit up for a volley, in that short space of time, is absolutely sublime.
