The sound of Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean hammering in the core sample tube at Sharp crater can be heard in the voice recording via a well known process of sound vibration to sound effect. As Alan Bean strikes the core sample tube, sound wave vibrations are conducted through his space suit traveling up to his helmet and picked up by the microphone that radios the hammer strikes back to Houston.

The sound of hammering is part of the official NASA record and can be found at http://next.nasa.gov/alsj/a12/a12.sharp.html
