This music video is the unexpected love child of a guerilla shoot and the undeniable charisma of singer/songwriter Joshua Grierson. Josh convinced me to shoot a promo for his Gauteng tour with Laurie Levine - for virtually no money - and at the time it seemed a good idea to film him playing one of his songs live.
It was totally unplanned, and we did it all (the promo and the vid) in about 4, 5 hours. I didn't even know the title of the song until after I'd edited the whole thing together. The music track is an actual live recording of Josh performing the song, impromptu, at The Waiting Room above Royale on Long Street. It was the first thing that came to his mind, I suspect, and the whole process was very natural and organic. We got it in one take.
We were unsure whether or not to release it, but after the audio was cleaned up we decided that the ambient sounds added a certain rawness and realness that a studio track would just never ever manage to capture, and on top of that, Josh delivered a perfect rendition of the song. We now present it for your viewing and listening pleasure.
