Realizing this is going to take more time, we are going to do a switch and go to

  • I'm glad I learned about the bead bearings, I had actually considered it myself but didn't think it necessary either. I've also considered spraying the gears with some sort of hardener maybe clear coat or scotch guard... What are your thoughts

  • I can feel your pain, my own (first) model only runs for a few seconds...

Main issues with these paper clocks are (beside precision cutting, folding, gluing):

    - axial and radial play, tolerances are <1.5mm

    - wear of bearings and teeth (use super glue to soak/harden the paper teeth!)

    - litte or uneven torque due to eccentricity/friction (more weight is dangerous)

These paper clocks do not tolerate too many rework cycles, things usually get worse over time.

    Good luck with yours,great project/clip!

  • I hope you kept working on the clock. It's clear that you're doing a careful job, I think it's just a really complicated kit. I just started building mine -- I got it from my grandpa when I was a kid, and I recently decided it was time to put it together -- and your videos are helpful as I think about the different steps of the project. Thanks for the great lessons and demonstrations! Good luck getting the dang thing finished. :)

  • Carl this is really a cool thing you are doing here! GO on

  • Carl. Keep trucking on that clock....I was given the same one to but together and will take any advise you can give me.

  • No problem keep it up.

  • cool :)
