Last October 30, 2009, around 1,262 indigent family beneficiaries were given a 25-kilo rice (half-cavan) by the UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME at Pateros Elementary School, Barangay San Pedro, Pateros, Metro Manila.
Day care workers together with the Barangay Nutrition Scholars and other barangay leaders took charge of the identification of beneficiaries and distribution of stubs. The number of packed rice is limited, thus priority was given to the family who belongs to the poorest of the poor, jobless and hardly hit by the typhoons ONDOY" and "PEPENG".
Presence of Her Excellency PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO highlighted the event. She was accompanied by the Secretary of National Defense and NDCC Chairman Gilbert Gibo" Teodoro, UN-WFP Officials and staff, NDCC staff, DSWD-NCR Director Thelsa P. Biolena and her staff, DILG-NCR Asst. Regional Director Virgilio Castro, DILG Pateros Director Pura P. Lito, Pateros PNP Chief Daniel Macatlang and staff, Municipal Councilors, Pateros Rescue Team and Rescue volunteers, Barangay Officials and Pateros Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council Members.
