A few of my subscribers asked to see the basics of playing Warhammer 40K. This is the third video in a multi-part series that talks about just the very basics of 40K rules.

Warhammer 40K is an exceptions based rule system. By that I mean that there are some core rules, but the various codexes have units that are exceptions to those rules. There is only so much we can go over and review in these videos, but they will go into as much detail as possible.

If there is something that I have said incorrectly, please send me a PM or post a comment. I want this to be a learning tool for new players.

One thing these videos will not go into is close combat assault. We hope to cover that in a follow on video.

This is part 3 of the first series.

  • thanks, i am attending my first tournament this friday at my local games workshop, i am not going to fight, i would rather learn a bit, plus i am deciding my next unit, what do you think i should get?

    squad of 10 space marines

squad of 5 marines and some paint

    attack bike

or should i save for black reach?

you seem to know your stuff....

  • @popman638isthebest Depends on the space marine chapter you are fielding and what you currently have. I wish I could help out more, but really it's heavily dependant on those two points. If you don't have a rule book or templates, black reach makes for a really great bargain.

  • But if running only gives you a move of up to six inches, what's the point of using it instead of normal move?

  • running occurs during the shooting phase.... so it's 6 inches PLUS 1d6 inches more.

  • WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? This coming from a guy who thinks he's cool because he made a wanabe flame thrower, and couldn't even get his own head in the shot. The videos fine, and if you leave now you might have some dignity.

  • thanks dude! that really cleared things up for me and my bro, cuz we wernt sure what to do so we just fired with everyone..

  • Awesome tutorial series! Sometimes to learn its best to see and hear rather than figure out what is typed in a rulebook.

I see that deep down you too serve the greater good. :)

  • @EclipticFitness1 You're trolling, right?

  • sorry my mistake your right coherince is 2 inchees base to base i was getting confused with moving when moving the base as to be within the distance it moves so if it moves 6 inches the outer edge needs to be within the 6 inches not at the end of 6 inches

  • hijust been watching this vid and you was showing that each model as to be 2 inches apart base to base for coherence and you measured from edge of base to near edge of base for the opponent but i just looked in rule book and the opponents far edge of base as to be within 2 ince of attackers near edge of base so for example imagen my diagram are base. o< near edge attacker o<far edge opponent must be 2inches from near edge to far edge

  • what happened to the magic phase you completely missed that
