Hey Hey it's TFU Friday! (or Hey Hey its racist Saturday)

Little bit of a drama being caused by a fairly tame show called Hey Hey It's Saturday because they did a painfully unfunny "blackface" sketch. Here's some background:

If anyone still isn't sure what I think: OF COURSE IT WAS RACIST! They can argue as much as they want it wasn't malicious, that doesn't change the fact they used a horrible racist stereotype that has been used to denigrate black people for almost 100 years. Being an ignorant racists is not really a good thing.

The blackface skit was done 20 years before that and they managed to get the same guys together for a reunion to do it again because it was popular.

Robert Downey Jr. is a white (American) guy that plays an Aussie that plays a black guy in Tropic thunder...How was this any different? Consider the fact that Rob Downey is an AMERICAN...Faaark. You are warped bro.

Although I am not an Anglo Saxon I don't think Australia is more or less racist than other countries. Every country has its share of racism and hypocrisy but Australians need to learn to stop defending everytime an incident comes up like this. It sometimes helps to be humble and to understand the situation an apology without feeling the need to justify what you did can go a long way.

I think ignorance has a part to play when it comes to jokes. Being dark Aussie myself and thinking about it for a bit our jokes can be quite abrasive whatever topic it maybe especially amongst people you know and as always the case everyone has a good laugh about it. But in retrospect this is a TV show for goodness sake leave bad jokes or subjects that have sensitivities behind. What may seem okay infront of your friends may not be appealing to someone else. It helps to be a bit mindful.
