Saddam didn't allow religious fanatics for fear of an Islamic revolution. Saddams real problem US had with Saddam was that he fluctuated the price of oil and broke Saudi OPEC quotas.

The United States of America invaded Iraq, a criminal yet secular dictator who's crimes are no less horrific than that of USA's allies, UAE, Jordan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, eyc. none of which are secular. In fact the accused attackers of 9/11 are Saudi Arabian. Osama Bin Laden declared war on Saddam Hussein a decade ago.
